Matt's out this week (in spite of his name showing up at the top of this post - never mind the man behind the curtain!), so here's a bit of a free-for-all.

Kath's (who isn't here this week but here's one she did before) got the following to say on "Songs we really hate" (this is what she gets up to in the 1 1/2 hours a day when she isn't working her socks off):

"We all love songs like Imagine and What a Wonderful World. (Editor's note: ... That's a fact. wink ) Songs do give us encouragement and express our hope for a better future. But then of course there are also songs that annoy the hell out of me...

My top three:

  1. Ironic: what on earth is Alanis thinking? A fly in your Chardonnay irony? That is just bad hygiene! Rain on your wedding day? Bad planning! Matt's take on this one is that the whole song is ironic. In that case I graciously forgive Alanis.
  2. Desert: main line of annoyance `I need you like the desert needs the rain`. Well, the desert does not really need rain, that is why it is a desert in the first place!
  3. 9 Million Bicycles: She says there are 9 million bicycles in Beijing, that is a fact, just as it is a fact that I love you. Hmmm, nobody really believe that in Beijing there are exactly ,000,000 bicycles, so if that is not a fact, than neither is the fact that she loves this character whom she is singing to... poor guy.

What are your songs you really hate?"
